Don’t Wait for Dental Problems to Get Worse

It's tempting to hope a dental problem resolves on its own. Occasionally it does, but more often, what starts as manageable discomfort becomes a more serious issue the longer it goes unaddressed. An infection can spread. A crack can worsen. A loose restoration can lead to further damage. Getting evaluated promptly is almost always the better choice — for your comfort, your tooth, and your wallet.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

If you're experiencing any of the following, contact us right away:
  • Severe Toothache — Persistent or throbbing tooth pain that isn't relieved by over-the-counter medication
  • Chipped or Broken Tooth — A fracture that is causing pain, sensitivity, or has left a sharp edge
  • Knocked-out Tooth — Time is critical; getting to us quickly gives the best chance of saving the tooth
  • Cracked Tooth — Visible or suspected cracks that cause pain when biting or sensitivity to temperature
  • Lost Filling or Crown — An exposed tooth that is sensitive or uncomfortable without its restoration in place
  • Dental Abscess — Swelling, severe pain, or a pimple-like bump on the gums indicating infection
  • Soft Tissue Injury — Cuts, lacerations, or trauma to the lips, cheeks, tongue, or gums
  • Broken or Ill-fitting Denture — A damaged or dislodged denture that is causing discomfort or affecting your ability to eat

What to Do Before You Reach Us

While you're on your way to our office, a few steps can help manage discomfort and protect your tooth:
  • Knocked-out Tooth — Handle it by the crown, not the root. Rinse gently with water and try to reinsert it into the socket if possible. If not, keep it moist in a container of milk or saliva and get to us immediately.
  • Toothache — Rinse with warm salt water and take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum tissue.
  • Broken Tooth — Rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, and collect any broken pieces to bring with you.
  • Lost Crown or Filling — Dental wax or temporary filling material from a pharmacy can offer short-term protection until your appointment.
  • Abscess or Swelling — Do not attempt to drain it. Apply a cold compress externally and get to us as soon as possible.
