Preserve Your Existing Teeth With Inlays and Onlays

At Caloosa Dental, we work hard to conserve your healthy tooth structure whenever possible. That's why when you have worn or cracked teeth or have large silver fillings - our practice recommends porcelain inlays and onlays.

With an inlay, the porcelain bonds directly to the tooth enamel, which means it is both durable and beautiful. An onlay is used when the tooth structure may be compromised by the use of a crown. Ask us about a consultation if you feel you may need an onlay or an inlay.

What are the benefits of inlays and onlays?

Natural look: Inlays and onlays blend seamlessly with your natural tooth color, making them almost undetectable unlike metal fillings.

Great fit: Unlike metal fillings, inlays and onlays do not undergo expansion or contraction due to temperature changes.

Longevity: Inlays and onlays have a lifespan of up to thirty years, surpassing the durability of any other filling option available.

Minimal tooth structure removed: Inlays and onlays are dental procedures that involve removing only a small portion of a tooth's surface. This approach helps to maintain as much healthy tooth structure as possible while effectively repairing areas that have been affected by decay or damage.

How it is done

Typically, two appointments are required for the placement of inlays and onlays. In the first visit, your dentist will take an impression of your tooth and send it to a laboratory to create the permanent inlay or onlay. Meanwhile, a temporary one will be fitted to protect your tooth until the next appointment. During the second visit, the dentist will remove the temporary material and fit your tooth with the permanent inlay or onlay received from the laboratory.
